Please bring with you:
If you require any special preparation your doctor will advise you.
On the day of your procedure, please arrive at the nominated time given to you by the receptionist. Please present to the reception desk . The admitting nurse will take your observations, attend to your pre-operative check and discuss any concerns you have regarding your surgery.
After your admission process is complete, you will be required to change into theatre attire. There are secured lockers for you to store your belongings in whilst you are in theatre.
The Anaesthetist will discuss your medical history at a pre-operative consultation, and answer any questions you may have about your anaesthetic and pain management.
Following surgery, when you are awake and well enough, you will be transferred to a comfortable chair in preparation for discharge. You will be offered light refreshments and will be able to change back into your own clothes. You can expect to be in recovery for a period of 1.5 to 3 hours after your surgery depending on your type of surgery and anaesthetic.
Your escort will be phoned once you are in the discharge area and the nurse looking after you will give you an information sheet which will advise you about wound care, activities, medications (such as pain relief), follow up appointment and any other special instructions you may require to care for yourself after discharge. We will also give you a contact number for the doctor in case of an emergency. It is against the Day Hospital Policy and recognised Day Surgery Guidelines to go home alone so it is important that prior to your admission, you make arrangements for someone to be with you after your surgery.
