Find out moreAt Mackay Specialist Day Hospital as a stand-alone facility, with fewer overheads compared to large hospitals, more efficient processes and no overnight patients, we can offer highly competitive day procedure rates.
We have agreements with the major health insurance funds. We recommend you contact your health fund prior to admission, to confirm your insurance covers the Medicare item numbers provided by your doctor’s rooms. We will also check your eligibility with your health fund prior to the day of your procedure, to ensure we charge you the correct amount. Read more about health fund cover >
Should you not have private health insurance, please contact the hospital with the Medicare item numbers from your doctor and we can provide you with a quote for your out of pocket expenses. Your surgeon and anaesthetist will bill you separately.
The hospital fee for your procedure covers the use of the operating theatre, day-stay accommodation and commonly used drugs and dressings. For some procedures, there will also be a charge for prostheses or disposables.
If you have private health insurance we will claim directly from your health fund.
If you have an excess or gap with your cover you will need to pay this on admission. Your health fund will have advised us directly of the cover they will pay.
If you do not have private health insurance you will need pay the full account on admission.
The fee for your surgery cannot be claimed through Medicare.
Mackay Specialist Day Hospital has an EFTPOS facility and accepts all major credit cards except diners. For safety reasons, cash is only accepted if there is no other option.
In addition to the hospital’s fee please be aware that your specialist, anaesthetist and pathologist will send their accounts for their services separately and directly to you. The hospital does not handle these accounts and you will need to pay them directly.
Please note that when you receive accounts from these doctors they will list the same item numbers as on your hospital account, but they are for your doctor’s services not the hospital’s costs.
