Dr Lance Herron
Clinical Director

Dr Lance Herron has more than 15 years experience in obstetrics and gynaecology. He commenced practice in Mackay in 1998 and joined QFG in 2001, where he helped establish the region’s first stand along IVF clinic. He has a special interest in fertility medicine, high risk obstetric cases, endoscopy surgery and pelvic floor reconstructive surgery. As the Medical Director of QFG Mackay, Dr. Herron and his team offer a compassionate and caring approach from the treatment of infertility right through to the delivery of the baby.



Dr Sally Rodrigues

Dr Sally Rodrigues is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. She also has additional qualification in Ultrasonography (Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound). She is a member of Fertility Society of Australia (FSA), IUGA and UGSA (Urogynaecological societies).

Sally has over 15 years’ experience in obstetrics and gynaecology. After completing her training in Adelaide she worked as a Fellow in advanced laparoscopic surgery at the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne before moving to Mackay in 2006.

Sally provides personalised and comprehensive fertility care and believes in enabling women to make their own choices. Her special interests include pelvic floor dysfunction and incontinence, and she has undertaken advanced training in these areas.

Sally consults at the Mater Medical Suites and operates at the Mater Hospital and the Mackay Specialist Day Hospital.

Dr Naguesh Gaunekar

Naguesh worked in Adelaide as a Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, before making the move to Mackay in 2006. He completed his specialist training at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide and obtained his specialist qualification in January 2004.

He has undertaken advanced training in minimal-invasive Gynaecology, Fertility medicine and Ultrasonography, which are his areas of interest. He was awarded the prestigious Young Gynaecologist Award in 2007 by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologist, the Beresford Buttery Travelling Fellowship in 2005-2006 and the Gold medal at the Post Graduate MD examination.

With over 15 years’ specialist training and experience, Naguesh provides state-of-the-art healthcare to couples, from fertility test through to the baby’s birth. He also offers a range of treatment options for Gynaecological problems such as Menstrual Disorders, Endometriosis, Abnormal Pap Smears and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. His personalised and patient centric approach, and his commitment to best practice, makes him popular with patients.

Dr James Gaffield

Dr James Gaffield is a specialist Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon who has performed operations at the Mackay Specialist Day Hospital since 2005. He conducts his Mackay surgical procedures through his private practice, Elite Cosmetic Clinic. Website address;

Educated and trained in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in the USA, Dr. Gaffield has practiced in Queensland since 2003. He holds specialist qualifications in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in both Australia and the USA, and is a member of both the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.He is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in both general and plastic surgery, and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) in plastic surgery. In the United States, he is board certified by both the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery; in Australia, he is certified by the Australian Medical Council.

He undergoes regular continuing education to meet the requirements set forth by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the Medical Board of California for every plastic surgeon, and pursues additional training as needed to keep his Mackay and Bundaberg practices at the forefront of the field. Since 2004, Dr. Gaffield has served as a senior lecturer at the University of Queensland School of Medicine.

Dr. Gaffield performs a variety of outpatient procedures at the Mackay Specialist Day Hospital, including cosmetic surgery of the face, breast, and body as well as minor reconstructive procedures, principally facial skin cancer operations. Other such procedures include but are not limited to; liposuction, rhinoplasty, otoplasty abdominoplasty, facelift, eye lift, brow lift, chin augmentation, breast lifts and breast reductions. While comprehensively experienced in a wide variety of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery procedures, his particular sub-specialty expertise and focus at the Mackay Specialist Day Hospital are operations to create pleasing breasts, through augmentation.

Dr William Boyd

Dr Boyd is a full-time Gynaecologist with 25 years of experience. Working with excellent staff in modern facilities he offers assessment, diagnosis and management of a wide range of Gynaecological conditions. His special areas of interest include female urinary incontinence and microsurgical reversal of both female and male sterilisations. Once a month he offers Outreach Clinics to Glenden, Moranbah, Emerald, Clermont and Proserpine.





Dr André Horak

Dr André Horak specialises in medical and surgical disease of the retina, cataract and refractive lens implantation surgery. He provides comprehensive ophthalmic services in his fields of speciality for the Central Queensland region. He works from Vision Eye Institute,Mackay.
Dr Horak graduated medicine in 1988. He completed his ophthalmic training at the University of Pretoria, in South Africa during 1997 before undertaking sub speciality training in vitreo-retinal surgery in the United Kingdom in 1998. Dr Horak was a director of and practiced at, the Pretoria Eye Institute and North Cliff Eye Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa from 1998 until relocating with his family to Australia during 2007. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Australian and New Zealand Society of Retinal Specialists and the European Vitreo-Retinal Society. Dr Horak is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. A Masters degree in Medicine was awarded to him in 1997.

Dr Stephen Megson
Orthopaedic Surgeon

Dr Steve Megson is an orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in hand and wrist surgery, and arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder, including knee and shoulder reconstruction. He has been working in Mackay for 14 years, following obtaining his Australian Orthopaedic Fellowship in Perth, WA.






Dr Ed Boets

Dr Ed Boets specialises in cataract and strabismus (squint) surgery and provides comprehensive ophthalmic services for the Mackay, Moranbah and Whitsunday Region. Dr Boets graduated in medicine in 1990. After compulsory military service at the Department of Ophthalmology at the Central Military Hospital in Utrecht, he completed his ophthalmic training at the University Medical Centre Leiden in 1998 and obtained the diploma of the European Board of Ophthalmology. He then worked as a staff specialist at the University Medical Centre Maastricht (Netherlands). From 1999 to 2007, he ran his own practice in Utrecht before moving to Australia. In 2008 Dr Boets became a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists.
